Segal observes existence in an age of Big Data by materializing the digital through software, electronics, mechanics, and information. In her works, she questions identity, autonomy, intimacy, privacy, control, memory, presence, communication, and originality.
Segal holds an M.Sc. in Decision Analysis and Complex Systems (Minerva Schools KGI, San Francisco, 2017), an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Biology (Tel Aviv University, 2007), and is a graduate of the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program for Fostering Excellence (Tel Aviv University, 2005). She previously worked as a researcher at Microsoft Innovation Labs. Liat is a public speaker and teaches at the Bezalel School of Arts and Design.
Her solo exhibitions include Output (Galerie Charlot Tel Aviv, 2019), Random Walk (Artist Residence Herzliya, 2019), Vessel Streaming (Center Intermondes, La Rochelle, 2018), This Is Not a Typewriter (Kanya Gallery, Berlin, 2016), Scattered Light (National Museum of American Jewish History, Philadelphia, 2015), and People You May Know (Hansen House, Jerusalem, 2014).
Segal’s work has been featured in museums and galleries worldwide, as well as in Outer Space, including the Israel Museum Jerusalem, Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, Gwangju Cultural Foundation South Korea, Rothko Center Daugavpils, Cluj Museum of Contemporary Art, Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Raw Art Gallery Tel Aviv, The Genia Schreiber Tel Aviv University Art Gallery, Art Space Tel Aviv, Hansen House Jerusalem, Fresh Paint Art Fair, Art Fair Cologne, and onboard the International Space Station.
Segal’s works are part of prominent public and private collections, including the Axel Springer Collection (Berlin), Rothko Center Collection (Daugavpils), Muzeul de Artă Cluj-Napoca, Charles and Leah Justin House Museum Collection (Melbourne), Andre Kanya Collection (Berlin), and the Viktor Family Collection (Los Angeles).
Liat is the recipient of the Minister of Culture and Sports Award for Plastic Arts, 2019, Israel. In 2020 her works were chosen for the Jury Selection at Japan Media Arts Festival and shortlisted by the prestigious Lumen Prize.
