Originals Factory is questioning digital, mechanic, and plastic approaches to art, abstraction, and originality. It is a painting machine, built and programmed to produce landscape paintings in the tradition of American abstract expressionism.
A computer system governs motor movements and pump activations, dropping paint onto a large canvas. The paint then trickles downward under gravity, leaving behind delicate, colorful lines.
Numerical data drives the painting process. Various data sets have been used as the catalyst for the expressive paintings. One such data source, for example, was Google Trends, which reveals the trends of what people are searching for online, implying a global state of mind at a given time.
